| [Aereon Narrating] |
They are an army unlike any other... crusading across
the stars toward a place called UnderVerse, their promised land... a constellation of dark new
worlds.
Necromongers they're called; and if they cannot convert you, they will kill you.Leading them:
the Lord Marshal. He alone has made a pilgrimage to the gates of the UnderVerse and returned a
different being.
Stronger. Stranger.
Half alive and half... something else.
If we are to survive, a new balance must be found. In normal times, evil would be fought by
good.
But in times like these, well, it should be fought by another kind of evil. |
" |
Conquest icons are two thousand
feet tall and a single one of them can destroy a small planet. More than anything else, the
Conquest Icon is a Necromonger victory totem.
Necromonger statues are based on he sculptures of
Adolfo Wildt.
Necromongers no longer have a home planet. They subsist entirely on what they have managed to
build on their ships.
Naphemil the Navigator, the third Lord Marshal, is credited with the birth of the Necromongers
nomadic culture.
Underverse was discovered by the first Lord Marshal, Corvu the Transcendend.
The Necromongers believe death is the next phase of life and use this as justification for their
acts of destruction.
As the first act of any Lord Marshal, there is a pilgrimage to The Threshold.

Planet 6 in the UV system
is made up of land areas called 'Fingerprint Terrain'. The feeble
sun orbiting Planet U-V- 6 casts ultra-violet light which is what makes it glow unnaturally.
Riddick managed to hide on this planet for 5 years before he was found. If asked, Riddick
would say that he was 'hiding from himself'. |
| Navigator |
Toombs, we're runnin' out of road! |

Merc ships are called Skiffs.
They are crewed typically by four: A capitain, a navigator and two gunners. The gunner harnesses
on modern skiffs are made to allow for maximum mobility and are not engineered to withstand
excessive force. Twohy envisioned the merc
ships as being pieced together from old, salvaged spaceship parts.
Question I’ve always asked myself:
Where the hell is the loo on a skiff? (and what does the loo on a Necro ship look like, if a
Necro in full armor can sit on it without breaking it?
And what the hell is that black stuff that's showing up when a Necro ship takes off? Do they all
flush their loos at the same time then to make it take off or what...? Questions over questions,
one sillier than the one before...) |
| Toombs |
Shut up! I got it! Again!
Now! |
" |
The skiff was probably stolen
from a merc ship called Kubla Khan, where Toombs first encountered Riddick.
The encounter is chronicled in the animated prequel "TCoR: Dark

Before the events in Pitch Black,
Richard B. Riddick was in the military, which would explain why he is such a proficient pilot. |

expect these mercs to have any honor, any code.
But this new bounty from a holy man, a guy whose neck I saved... Well, lesson learned. No such

Can only end bad when you let someone get too close. [Chuckles] Bad for them.
So now it's back to all the brightness... and everything I hate. Wonder if she'll be there. |

The scene of Riddick flying over Helion's

not even by a professional, but with standard terrain settings. Honestly. |
| (Street scene on Helion, Imam walking the streets of New Mecca) |
Imam, pray for us.
[Woman] It was confirmed two seasons back. Yes.
[Woman # ] They're coming here. I mean, are we next?
[Man] Militants storm...
[Woman # ] Yes. But going to the underground shelters if it happens...
[Man # ] You're right. That's what I thought too.
[Man # ]Are you staying or leaving?
[Man # ] It's the end of everything. Everything.!

Some kind of new creature...
This is nonsense.
It's all nonsense.
[Man # ] So tall that it touches the clouds. And there's nothing around this statue, this
colossus. Nothing left. It's their calling card. |
(Scene is much shorter in the
theatrical cut. You especially can’t understand anything that’s said by the New Meccan
citizens.) |
Helion Prime is one of six
planets in the Helion system. The surface of Helion Prime
consists largely of sand dunes and an ocean of green water.
The economy of Helion Prime is based on the brokering of light. This
explains the titanic solar beacons spotting the planet's surface.
The architecture of New Mecca is based on sand, glass and water - all of
which is abundant supply on Helion Prime.
His home on New Mecca gets its name because the sacred black stone in the
Meccan temple on Earth was split in two as humans moved further into space.
After Pitch black, Riddick left Jack with Imam on New Mecca and then left
to put himself into self imposed exile on Planet U.V.6. |
| Riddick |
Did you know all your doors were locked?
Five years ago, I took two people off that planet...
A kid, Jack, who everyone else thought was a boy, and a holy man... searching for New Mecca.
Your wife... She's in the shower.
I told one man... where I might go. I showed trust to one man.
Did I make a mistake, Imam? |

I told one man... where I might go. I showed trust to one man.
Did I make a mistake, Imam? |
Why does it seem so important to Riddick that he
mentions the 'doors being locked' to Imam?
The answer is simple - in an islamic household, the doors are usually never locked because
visitors are always welcome. It seems that the Chrislam, the religion being practiced in the
Riddick universe, has the same customs so that a locked door even makes Riddick wonder.
There were four complete rooms built on set for Imam's
house. They were built in a modular way so that walls could be removed any time to get shots
from every angle. |
| Imam |
There is no simple answer.
Whatever was said was meant to give us a chance... a fighting chance.
Were it not for the threat of invasion, I never would have betrayed you. I give you my word,
Riddick. |

The entire Aquilan System is gone too.
Helion Prime shares its sunlight with all worlds nearby. If we fall, they fall. And after

Vin Diesel always wanted to work
with Dame Judi Dench, and as a result, tailored the role of Aereon specifically for her. He
first approached her to consider this role by filling her London stage dressing room with roses. |

Aereon is an air elemental
and is only visible when the air is still around her.

Butcher Bay". |

The Necromongers chose to

would fall more quickly.
Necro fighters are typically released en masse to clear airspace for incoming warrior ships.

| Lensor |
Imam! |
" |
Necro Lensors are the
'Bloodhounds' of the Necromongers, used to sniff out life. They entirely lack free will and are
controlled via a cable which interfaces with a handheld unit. They respond to heat signatures
and sound and store their vision in memory, which may be accessed at any time.
The actors inside the Lensor costumes were skilled in body
movement, some were from Cirque du Soleil. |
| Imam |
Don't follow me. |

|
| Imam |
There will be an afterlife for me.
Will there be for you? |
" |
While the Necro troops do
have guns it is more honorable to kill with wielded weapons. They do not believe in clean armor.
The more damage you show, the greater warrior you are. Necro
troops make especially effective fighters because they find honor in death and are unable to
feel pain. |
| Lord Marshal |
Let's go replenish the ranks. |
" |
|
| Dame Vaako |
Never fails to inspire, does it? Each time a dynasty falls. |

The spine motif in all
Necromonger costumes relates to the early notion of purification through the spine. The concept

| Purifier |
In this 'verse, life is antagonistic to the natural state.
Here, humans in all their various races are a spontaneous outbreak... an unguided mistake.
Our purpose is to correct that mistake.
Because there is another 'verse...a 'verse where life is welcomed and cherished. A ravishing,
ever-new place called UnderVerse.
But the road to that 'verse... crosses over the threshold. |
In this ‘verse, humans have been fractured. Divided
by all their many races, creeds and mistaken faiths.
Our purpose is to correct that mistake.
Because there is another 'verse... another universe that he has found. Where anyone can begin
anew. Where you can live free of pain, a perfect new place, called UnderVerse. |
Note that all reference
to the 'threshold' has been removed from the theatrical cut; not just in this scene but also in
later ones.
That word is pretty frequently used in the Director's cut, but never in the theatrical version.
Also note the different meaning of what the Purifier and also the Lord
Marshal say in the two versions.
In the theatrical cut it sounds as if the Necros were to 'unite' all human races, in the
Director's cut, however, it sounds as if the Necros want to eliminate all human life. |

Just as you will change... when you realize that the

For those of you who will right now... drop to your knees and ask to be purified. |

" |
The Lord Marshal's astral
self can easily pass through matter making it a simple task to remove a person's soul. It also
has intense physical properties and can inflict force and pain to others.
His given name is 'Zhylaw the Last'. |

" |
Irgun is one of the
Necromonger's fiercest warriors, carrying a ceremonial poll axe. He keeps the knife in his back
as a trophy and a constant reminder fo pain. He serves under Vaako as his first.
He is considered one of the fiercest of the Necros. The knife in his back
cannot be removed by just any man. For this reason, the ease with which Riddick removes the
blade is particularly significant. |

Take him back to my ship for mind regression. |
|
| Dame Vaako |
Perhaps the breeder would do it... if somebody just asked him.
It is a rare offer. A visit inside Necropolis. |

The term 'breeder' is applied to
all non-Necros. |

It's been a long time since I smelled beautiful. |

|
| Dame Vaako |
Let me show you the way. Beautiful eyes. Come.
The last six Lord Marshals have called this home. Magnificent, isn't it? |
" |
The Lord Marshal's great hall is
called the Necropolis. It was originally built on Mount Asylum by Covo, the first Lord Marshal.
The stained glass around the Basilica and the floor design detail past Necromonger crusades,
much likely to medieval tapestries. |
| Riddick |
I might have gone a different way. |

True of us all.
Converts receiving the mark of the Necromonger. They learn how one pain can lessen another. |

So, where do we drop your merc-killin' ass? Who's gonna pay the

Riddick is either directly or
indirectly responsible for the death of several Mercs. William J. Johns the most notorious among
them. |
| Riddick |
Butcher Bay. Ten minutes every other day on the dog run. Protein
waffles aren't bad. |
" |
Butcher Bay used to be a triple
max slam but was downgraded after Riddick escaped as
featured in the Videogame 'TCoR: Escape from Butcher Bay'. |
| Toombs |
Hey, how 'bout Ursa Luna? Nice little double-max prison. |

You know the problem with these joints now? Health clubs for

about someplace truly diabolical. |

|
| Logan |
What the hell is he thinkin' now? |

|
| Riddick |
He's thinkin' a triple-max prison. A no-daylight slam, only three
of' ‘em left in this system... two of' ‘em outta range for a shitty little undercutter like this
one with no legs.
Leavin' just... one... Crematoria. That is what you had in mind, right, Toombs? |

Just do it! |
" |
|
| Riddick |
Don't know about this new crew of yours... They seem a bit
skittish. Probably shouldn't tell 'em what happened to the last crew. |
" |
Toombs has a reputation for
losing crews. He's lost at least two that are documented, and it is implied that he lost several
more. |
| Toombs |
You know, you’re supposed to be some slick-shit killer. Now look at
you... all back-of-the-bus and shit. |
" |
|
| Toal |
I say we attack Helion Two next. Take it straight into their teeth.
It'll cost you 20.000 heads, five warrior ships. Nothing more, I swear it. |
" |
|
| Lord Marshal |
While I do prize brute force, this approach is perhaps more artful:
Start at the end. Go straight to Helion Five, the last planet in the system. We approach from
the night side. Remove these cannons first, then attack the larger placements at speed.
We'll catch them on their rear flank.
And in ten days time, the rest of those worlds will tumble before us.
You see, as with most, their blind spot... is right behind them. |
" |
|
| Vaako |
I've located an ion trail which leads off-world. |

| Lord Marshal |
Then you should be off-world, Vaako. |
" |
|
| Vaako |
I've deployed a tracker team. One of the best. |
" |
|
| Lord Marshal |
Wherever Riddick has gone, you lens him out and cleanse him. You. |
" |
|
| Vaako |
You want me to take a frigate for one breeder? |
" |
Vaako's frigate - unlike the
fighters - can travel great distances from the necro fleet. |
| Lord Marshal |
Don't question it, Vaako! Take it on faith. |
" |
|
| Dame Vaako |
He's always been unsettled around you... the Lord Marshal.
Unsteady.
Perhaps because he knows he's half the warrior you are... Some say he's too artistic for the
job. I wouldn't be surprised if someone promoted him soon... to full dead. |
" |
The clothing pattern of choice
for Necromongers is called 'Mockodile' - this is most evident in Dame Vaako's dress. |
| Vaako |
Take care what you say. |
" |
|
| Dame Vaako |
Should I say it softly? |
" |
|
| Vaako |
So it sounds more like conspiracy? |
" |
|
| Dame Vaako |
Oh, why is it that when anyone breathes about the demise of him on
the throne... everyone assumes a conspiracy?
Why isn't that just prudent planning? |
" |
|
| Vaako |
When he is ready, he will name a successor. |
" |
|
| Dame Vaako |
Who? Toal? Scales? The Purifier?
None of them... with the strength, the dignity, of Lord Vaako.
You can keep what you kill... |

Because I serve him. We all serve him. It's called fidelity. |

It's called stupidity.

Well, finally some attention. You have such greatness in you. If only you could see it like I

You know what I want? |

Today I came up behind him in perfect silence and he knew. |

When no one is looking... when no one's around... I'm gonna get
down on my knees... while you sit on the throne. |
In Necro relationships, they do
have sex ut they do not procreate. As long as there are new converts, Necromongers won't
hesitate to sacrifice or leave behind their own. Look out for the next
reference to ‚kneeling‘ in the director’s cut and laugh with me when it comes up... |

Mercenaries, Elementals, Necromongers – Shit, I’ve
never been so popular.
Should probably slip these chains and open up a few arteries.
But why drive when you can get driven? Free ticket to Crematoria – thanks, Toombs.
Got me some business there named Jack. And once we’ve settled, I’ll walk away forever. So I’ll

He doesn't regard her as a captive, though.
Elementals... they talk of neutrality, but they're all witches and spies. Why else would they

There is popular scepticism that
Elementals are as neutral as they claim |

How do I get eyes like that? |
The 'sweet spot' is right between
the 3rd and 4th vertebrae on the spine. Riddick said something
similar in Pitch Black. |

Only there wasn't any doctor here who could shine my eyes, not even for 20 menthol Kools - Was
there anything you said that was true?
What are you gonna do, huh? Go for the sweet spot? |
" |
These are partial lines from ‘Pitch Black’.
Prison currency is typically cigarettes.
It is unknown whether Riddick's eyeshine is based on the same procedure as the hounds. It's just
an animal thing.
(I have a helluva lotta information on the Riddick-eyeshine
(universe-vise), but there’s not enough space to type it down here... – let it just be said that
it’s obviously not a surgical nor animalic, but a Furyan feature – which Riddick is probably not
aware of.) |
| Riddick |
Remember who you're talkin' to, Jack. |
" |
|
| Kyra |
Jack's dead. She was weak... She couldn't cut it.
The name's Kyra now. And I'm a new animal. |

| Purifier |
They can be quite a test, these deep runs... tests of our inner
selves. Don't you find that true? |
This scene comes much
later in the theatrical cut. Text is the same in both versions. |
|
| Vaako |
Some men do. |
|
| Purifier |
Just being so far from the armada, the mind can start to fill with
strange thoughts, doubts. Don't you ever have doubts, Vaako? |
|
| Vaako |
Doubts? |
|
| Purifier |
About the campaign. About Lord Marshal. |
|
| Vaako |
First and always, I am a Necromonger commander. So if you're here
to test my loyalty, you succeed only in testing my patience. |
|
| Purifier |
Oh, no. No, that's not why I'm here at all. |
|
| Dame Vaako |
I'm so glad I could steal you away for a moment. Doesn't it strike
you odd? Here we have the current Lord Marshal... destroying entire societies, and yet he can't
bring himself... to kill one stranded Elemental.
Why is that? You don't pray to our god. You pray to no god, I hear. |
" |
Aereon can be bound by chains
because she has mass. It's just transparent when she moves.
Her dress is made entirely of crushed Swarovski crystal.
Which, of course, is not quite right, even if it’s written in the ‚Riddick
facts‘ (and "Swarovski" is spelled "Swarowsky" there...).
See my analysis of this costume; there’s nothing "crushed
Crystal" there; except perhaps of some of the silk of her floor-length vest that has been
slightly crushed into false Fortuny pleats... |
| Aereon |
Elementals... we calculate. |
" |
Elementals see Furyans as the
opposite of Necromongers, so they want a war to rage between the two - leaving Elementals in
control. |
| Dame Vaako |
Don't we all.
But now let's have first things first. What of Riddick? |
" |
|
| Aereon |
In truth, I don't know where he went. |
" |
|
| Dame Vaako |
In truth, I'm more interested in where he came from.
Watch your step. I've always wondered, does an air Elemental fly? Now do me a favor. Calculate
the odds of you getting off this planet alive... and now cut them in half. |
" |
|
| Aereon |
No, we can't fly. But we glide very well. Save your threats,
Necromonger. I would have told you about Riddick for the asking.
It concerns a foretelling, a prediction now more than years old. A young warrior once
consulted a seer. He was told a child would be born on the planet Furya... a male child...
who would someday cause the warrior's downfall. |
No, we can't fly. But we glide very well. Save your
threats, Necromonger. I would have told you about Riddick for the asking.
It concerns a foretelling, a prediction now more than 30 years old. A young warrior once
consulted a seer...of sorts, and was told that he would die at the hands of a Furyan. So he
waged a private war on the planet Furya, killing what he could find. This was before he became
Lord Marshal, of course. That massacre should have ended that matter, but now it seems, one
Furyan had a knack... for escape. |
|
| Dame Vaako [speaking to Vaako via the quasi-deads) |
Cause his untimed death. |
Scene of Dame
Vaako speaking to Vaako via the Quasi-Deads is entirely missing in the theatrical version |
|
| Vaako |
Furya? Furya's a ruined world. No life to speak of. |
|
| Dame Vaako |
For good reason. This young warrior mounted an attack on Furya,
killing all young males he could find, even strangling some with their birth cords.
An artful stroke, wouldn't you say? |
|
| Vaako |
So this warrior, the one who tried to outwit the prediction, would
later become... |
|
| Dame Vaako |
That's why he worries. |
|
| Vaako |
The Lord Marshal. Which would make the man-child... |
|
| Dame Vaako |
He worries he missed killing that child in its crib. |
|
| Vaako |
Riddick. That's why it's so vital to him. |
|
| Dame Vaako |
Wait. |
|
| Vaako |
It's about a prophecy. |
|
| Dame Vaako |
Wait! Wait! |
|
| Vaako |
Are you there? |

You do what your lord asks. You cleanse Riddick for him, and in
doing so... you prove your undying loyalty. And perhaps then he'll finally let down his guard. |

age? When you're 12 years old? |

The Mercs slaved Kyra out to a
pack of Rykengolls - brutal barbarians who tortured her. She killed them all. |

I told you to stay in New Mecca. [Shouts] Did you not listen? I
had mercs on my neck. I'll always have mercs on my neck.
